What the paper testsYour aircraft, not aircraft in general
Technical Specific is written against a single airframe. It asks what the 172 R does — its limiting speeds, its fuel quantities, how its electrical system is fed, what its checklist calls for — not how light aircraft work in principle.
The 172 R is worth particular care because it differs from earlier 172s in ways the paper will happily exploit.
What is insideOne type, nothing else
Each of the six types is a separate subject on AIVR CPL, so a 172 R practice set, test and exam paper are drawn only from the 172 R bank.
No filtering, and no risk of an answer that is correct for a different Cessna.
Where marks go missingVariant drift
The commonest error on this type is a figure carried over from a 172 M, N or S, or from a carburetted 172 to the fuel-injected R. The engines, and therefore the starting and mixture procedures, are not the same.
Check every value against the flight manual for the actual airframe you are examined on.
How to work through itA small bank, so run it dry
This is a compact subject and it is realistic to work the whole bank rather than sample it. Practice mode until the systems are clear, then test mode until nothing new appears.
Then sit the 50-question paper on the clock.
