DGCA meteorology questions rarely stop at a definition. They ask what a condition produces — what stability does to turbulence, what a temperature inversion does to visibility, what a cold front does to your cruise.

Learning the mechanism therefore covers far more of the paper than learning the vocabulary does.

What is insideIndian weather is not an afterthought

The monsoon, western disturbances and tropical revolving storms carry their own chapters, because a paper written for Indian candidates asks about them properly and most general aviation-weather material does not.

Decoding gets the same treatment: METAR, TAF, SIGMET and station model each get their own drill rather than one shared "codes" chapter.

Where marks go missingThe ISA arithmetic

The single most reliable source of lost marks is ISA arithmetic done in a hurry — 1.98°C per 1,000 ft rounded badly, the tropopause value misremembered, or a deviation applied with the wrong sign.

It is a five-minute fix and it recurs across altimetry, performance and even navigation, so it is worth being the first thing you make automatic.

How to work through itDecode daily, theorise weekly

Run a short decoding set most days — it is a motor skill and it fades without use. Take the theory chapters more slowly, one system at a time, with practice mode showing the reasoning as you go.

Then sit the full 50-question paper on the clock. Two hours for 50 questions feels generous until the decoding is slow.

It is 50 questions worth 2 marks each in 2 hours — 100 marks, passing at 70. Exam mode on AIVR CPL is that exact paper, timed, with nothing revealed until submission.
Does the bank cover the Indian monsoon?
Yes. The climatology of India, the southwest and northeast monsoon, western disturbances and tropical revolving storms are covered in their own chapters, which is where a DGCA paper differs most from generic aviation weather material.
Is this the same as ATPL Meteorology?
No. DGCA examines ATPL Meteorology as a separate subject with its own 100-question paper, and it has its own separate bank on AIVR CPL.
