Technical General.

What the paper testsBreadth at a consistent depth

Technical General does not go very deep into any one area, but it goes to the same moderate depth across all of them. A candidate who is excellent on principles of flight and vague on hydraulics loses more marks than one who is merely solid everywhere.

The bank is sized to reflect that — no chapter is a token five questions.

What is insideTwo engine families, kept apart

Piston engines and gas turbines are separate chapters with separate drills, because the exam treats them as separate topics and because mixing them is how candidates end up applying turbine reasoning to a carburettor.

The electrics and systems chapters are similarly split by system rather than by book chapter, so revising "hydraulics" means revising hydraulics.

Where marks go missingThe nearly-right answer

Technical General options are built to be close. "Increases", "increases then decreases" and "remains constant" will all appear for the same quantity, and only one of them survives a moment of thought about the actual mechanism.

Reading the working rather than only the answer is what stops that pattern costing you marks — which is why every explanation states the mechanism, not just the correct option.

How to work through itOne system at a time

Because the paper is broad, breadth-first revision is a trap: you finish knowing a little about everything and enough about nothing. Take one system to test-mode standard, then move on.

Sit the full 100-question paper only once several systems hold. It is the fastest way to find the area you have quietly been avoiding.
