What the paper testsA jet-fuel twin with full-authority control

The Centurion is a turbocharged, liquid-cooled compression-ignition engine burning Jet A-1, driving the propeller through a reduction gearbox and clutch, and managed end to end by an electronic engine control from a single lever.

Nothing about mixture, magnetos or carburettor heat applies. Gearbox and clutch inspection intervals, coolant, and the behaviour of the control unit do.

What is insideOne variant, nothing else

Thielert and Austro DA42s are separate subjects on AIVR CPL with separate banks and separate papers. A practice set, test or exam here is drawn only from the Thielert bank.

They look like the same aeroplane and they are examined as two.

Where marks go missingEngine-out numbers and control logic

As with any twin, the asymmetric speeds and single-engine performance carry disproportionate marks. On this variant the electronic engine control adds a second cluster — what it does automatically, what it will not let you do, and what a control failure actually presents as.

The electrical system matters more than on a piston twin, because the engines depend on it.

On the Thielert-engined DA42, propeller RPM and engine power are set by:

ASeparate throttle, propeller and mixture levers, as on a conventional piston twin
BA single power lever per engine, with the electronic engine control managing fuel and propeller pitch
CA throttle and propeller lever, with no mixture control
DA condition lever and a power lever, as on a turboprop
